Mary Stewart’s Prayer

Jessica and Anthony had Anthony’s Uncle Charlie read this prayer during their wedding ceremony yesterday in Newport, RI. This is my first encounter with this all too timely prayer written by Mary Stewart in 1904, while she was principal of Longmont High School in Colorado.
Mary Stewart’s Prayer
Keep us, O God, from all pettiness.
Let us be large in thought, in word, in deed. Let us be done with fault-finding and leave off all self-seeking.
May we put away all pretense and meet each other face to face, without self pity and without prejudice.
May we never be hasty in judgment, and always be generous.
Let us always take time for all things, and make us to grow calm, serene and gentle. Teach us to put into action our better impulses, to be straightforward and unafraid.
Grant that we may realize that it is the little things of life that create differences, that in the big things of life, we are as one.
And, O Lord God, let us not forget to be kind!
Amen.

We hope this reading is helpful to you on your journey.

Why no images on our blog?  Wedding images come and go with fashion and with the season, so many and so varied. We feel it is the words you share with each other, during your wedding ceremony, that are some of the most significant and intimate words you will ever share, in your life,  and, like gems, are unique and personal.

Celtic Wedding Blessing

This reading was at Nellie and Mike’s wedding July 28, 2017. There are many Irish/Celtic Blessings, we feel this one stands out.
May your souls always bathe in the truth of light and understanding.
May your love always lift your head to the heavens,
While your feet remain deeply rooted in the earth.
May your love be not only of your minds but of your hearts,
And may your hearts remain open to one another.
May your love be a sanctuary for one another and all that you hold sacred.
May your love always honor the One who first loved you, and inspired you to love one another—the One who brought you together—the Creator of us all.
We hope this helps you on your journey.

Vows

I stand here before you ready to take you as my wife, lifelong partner, and forever love.
Every day I see your passion for life, fierce loyalty to loved ones, and open heart. You are inspiring and I continue to learn from you.
You’re the first person I go to in times of need and of joy, and your presence in my heart provides a source of strength I never knew possible.
Your thoughts, wants, and needs are on my mind more than I will ever be able to fully express. But I promise to try.
Today before our friends and family, I vow:
To tell you every morning how much I love you
To never go to sleep upset with one another
To be patient, understanding, and a safe haven in difficult times
To pick you up when you are down
To remain faithful in mind and body
To remind you how truly beautiful you are, inside and out
To always be supportive in my actions and compassionate in the delivery of my words
To continually strive in our relationship to be the best husband that my baby babe deserves. I love you with all my heart.

We hope these beautiful and heartfelt vows has been helpful to you on your journey and you have enjoyed your visit.

Touched by an Angel by Maya Angelou

The power of a poet is the ability to weave words in such a way as to shed light into the dark and hidden places of our heartland allowing us to glow and grow with new life. Maya Angelou is a poet and prophet who shows us truth and cast a beautiful light into our lives. Thank you Maya.

Touched by an Angel by Maya Angelou, Poet

We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.
Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.
We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love’s light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love which sets us free.

Reprise- Ogden Nash

I cannot say any more than this made my heart smile this morning. Thanks you,  Ogden Nash. Enjoy the journey of your day.

                  ~Reprise~
Geniuses of Countless Nations
Have told their love for generations
Till all their memorable phrases
Are common as goldenrod or daisies.
Their girls have glimmered like the moon,
Or shimmered like a summer moon,
Stood like a lily, fled like a fawn,
Now the sunset, now the dawn,
Here the princess in the tower
There the sweet forbidden flower.
Darling, when I look at you
Every aged phrase is new,
And there are moments when it seems
I’ve married one of Shakespeare’s dreams

I (can’t) Promise You- Bahl

On a beautiful Friday evening in Bristol, Rhode Island, Aly and Brandon celebrated their wedding. This warm and sensitive couple modified a poem ascribed to Bhal with the first line being I can’t promise you. In their program, Aly and Brandon simply identified the piece as: I Promise You

I can’t promise you
that dark clouds
will never hover
over our lives
or that the future
will bring us many rainbows.
I can’t promise you
that tomorrow
will be perfect
or that life will be easy.
I can promise you
my everlasting devotion,
my loyalty,
my respect,
and my unconditional
love for a lifetime.
I can promise that
I’ll always
be there for you,
to listen
and to hold your hand,
and I’ll always do
my best to make you happy,
and make you feel loved.
I can promise that
I’ll see you through
any crisis,
and hope with you,
dream with you,
build with you,
and always cheer you on
and encourage you.
I can promise that
I’ll share my dreams my world,
and every aspect
of my life with you.
I’ll willingly be
your protector,
your advisor,
your counselor,
your friend,
your family,
your everything.
And I believe that’s
what love is truly all about.

We hope this poem has been helpful to you on your journey and you have enjoyed your visit.
