Vows: Jennifer and James

Last weekend we celebrated the wedding of high school sweethearts whose lives went away from each other and came back 35 years later via Facebook. These are the vows James and Jennifer shared  in their ceremony, before their family and friends.

James’ Vows to Jennifer:

Because of you
I dare to dream again.
Because of you:
I laugh,
I smile,
I live again.
Because of you, I look forward with great joy and excitement exploring our new life together and spending the rest of my life with you growing as a husband and wife should.
Today, I stand here with you. in front of our family and friends, vowing to love you with all my heart and soul.
I vow to support and comfort you through all of life’s ups and downs.
I offer you all that I am and to be true and faithful as long as we both shall live.
I love you.

Jennifer’s vows to James:

James, I found you in the midst of a very rough time in my life.
You were the strength that helped me through it.
When I cried, you wiped my tears and held me close, always assuring me you would always be there for me, for this I am grateful.
It’s funny how life is, in the midst of pain,
Love still finds its way to overcome and conquer and join hearts, for this I am grateful.

I love you James with all my heart and soul,
You are my partner, my friend, my confidante,
For this I am grateful.
Today I stand in front of you, and our family and friends vowing my love and commitment to our unity of marriage.
I also promise my hand will always be holding yours.
Standing besides you through all of life’s joys and life’s challenges.
For as long as we both shall live.
I love you

More Vows

We feel one of the greatest privileges and joys as a wedding officiant is to stand before a couple to witness their vows and be present to a changing moment in the history of the human race. There before us are two people, two lives, uttering a hand full of words and the lives of families and communities are forever altered. Because vows are so incredibly intimate other names are used than the couple who wrote them.

“Jason, today, i take you to be my husband for life.

I vow to help create a life that we can cherish,

inspiring your love for me and mine for you.

I give you my hand and my heart as a sanctuary of warmth and peace.

And I pledge my love, devotion, faith and honor, as I join my life to yours-

Living, learning, loving, together

As long as we both shall live”

And his:

“I, Jason, promise you Melissa to keep fast in our marriage;

an expression of gratitude, a living oath to safeguard our love,

and a heart set upon experiencing with you,

ever and ever more deeply,

life lived with courage, grace, light and joy.

I promise this most of all to you dear Melissa, for you, for me, for all of our time-

to wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving you.”

Beautiful and we are grateful to witness this depth of heart.
